You should knō the answers to these questions!
Our lawyers told us we can't say that you "should" and honestly, it doesn't matter if you test with us, or with someone else - we just want more people to get tested. Our goal is to make the process of getting tested and sharing results suck less.
Dating is fun. Testing isn't.
knō-ing makes testing worth while.
Yes, we screen for a wide range of STIs.
Yes, we make the process simpler.
Yes, we make sharing your testing history simple.
Yes, we make you look like more of a snack in the process with the knō app & the knō badges.
We're not all scientists & doctors, so we understand that accidents do happen. Knowing this, we offer free replacements for up to two samples in any event where they are lost or otherwise tainted — after that it's on you!
Results should generally be available within one week of shipping your kit to our labs.
knō was created as a regular screening service to help support sex-positivity and communication through shame-free at-home testing. That said - we are not doctors. If you or your partner are symptomatic, it's likely you'll need to be tested anyway - but a doctor will be able to prescribe precautionary medicine, refer you to specialists, and provide a whole plethora of other services (oral and anal swabs) that we simply cannot.
Just like we test for COVID after receiving a positive test to ensure that we're not longer infected, or contagious - your doctor will want to schedule a follow-up test to confirm that whatever treatment that was prescribed (for any curable STIs) was successful. Once that's done and you're back to your regular screening cycle - we'll be here for you.
We already used the COVID example - but the same principle applies here. If you think you've been exposed - a doctor is likely to run testing for the specific STI that you've been exposed to to rule out infection; or begin treatment if it's likely you've been infected.
Valid is a strong word. We don't know what you get up to in between tests - and that's fine, we're into it. We expire results every 6 months to promote regular testing - but how often you test is highly dependent on your own sexual activity & how many partners you have.
knō allows you to test for a lot of stuff - all in one kit - if you are into that kinda thing.
If you must know, here's the list:
- Herpes 1
- Herpes 2
- HIV
- Mpox
- Trich
- Syphilis
- Chlamydia
- Gonorrhea
- Mycoplasma Genitalium
knō is registered as Testy Test Inc - meaning that that's what will show up in your declining balance when you purchase. So if you're a college student, mom & dad will just think you're paying for a tutor or other educational subscription service.
If you see self-reported next to a disease on the results page, it means that the user reported testing positive for the disease previously, but our test did not detect it. The molecules used to detect some diseases are not always present in the bloodstream, and no test is perfect.
There's always going to be those who try to cheat the system. knō makes it so that faking results would be incredibly difficult - outside of stealing someone else's blood.
In reality, it's much easier to fake a PDF than an entire app ecosystem - so if you want to play safe, just ask that your potential partner logs into their account to share results IRL.
We expire knō results every 6 months because the average sexually active adult has 2 new sexual partners a year...and numbers and stuff. If you're enjoying multiple partners, then it's best to have a conversation with your doctor to determine best practices for testing.
Not at all. While our research has shown that those that do are seen as more mature, safe & considerate, we also know that this may not be information that everyone wants to broadcast to the world.
Whoever you feel comfortable with. Most people - if it gets to that point - are usually cool just knowing that their potential partner has been tested recently. But we also totally understand wanting to see the data. Everyone is different, and has different levels of comfort, so do what makes you feel good.
That's entirely up to you! The knō app was designed to allow you to share with anyone who might need to know that you've been tested — sharing actual results is a bit more personal. We strongly recommend sharing results in person with trusted individuals who either need to - or have a very strong chance of needing to - know your sexual wellness status.
The knō app is available on both Android and iPhone. We don't discriminate based on your platform type or the color of your chat bubble.
We've partnered with a lab in the US to process our knō kits to ensure that each kit is handled by experts.
You sure can! Spending pre-tax dollars on STI testing is one of our kinks.
While the kits themselves likely last as long as a twinkie - we expire our kits after 6 months to avoid them getting lost in the wild and having our labs have to keep track of all those kits out in the world.
